Description
Old stone castle/water mill from the 16th century located in Kastela at only 3 km from the centre of the UNESCO-protected city of Trogir. It is also situated approximately 3 km from Split International airport and about 25 km from the city of Split. The property is on the river Pantan, on the border between the river and the sea, so it is mainly surrounded by water. There is a road access for cars of about 4 m wide. There is also a place for growing fish.
The property has been completely renovated and it is being used as a restaurant. The old mill is in function. The area of the building is about 500 m2 and the area of the land with water is 12.000 m2.
The water mill currently consists of three main rooms. The main door at the rear opens on to a large restaurant that has extensive exposed stone walls and an attractive glass roof at one end, allowing light to flood in and offers views of the tower above. There is an open-plan kitchen beneath the glass roof with capacity for 120 covers and a separate entrance to guest toilets. There are further ample storage and food preparation areas to the rear.
Immediately to the right of the main door, there are two separate doorways, one leading into a room with a stunning part-glass floor locking down to the small waterfall below. The roof slopes down quite sharply with restricted headroom at one end. It is currently used for small seminars, lectures, discussion groups and playgroups.
The other door leads through to the front, lower half of the building and contains the original mills, the workings of which are still visible in some of the bays. The sound of rushing water below adds to the atmosphere and charm. There is room for a large number of tables. There is also access to the three guest rooms that have been stylishly converted and all offer en-suite facilities. They currently let at around €100 per night though there is room for this to increase given the history and desirability of the location.
