Eau Claire Community
Eau Claire is bounded on the South by 3rd Avenue SW, East by 2 Street SW and the picturesque Bow River on the North and West.
It is a mix of riverside condominiums, unique shopping, restaurants, hotels, urban parkland and this makes Eau Claire and the Festival District, among Calgary's liveliest urban districts.
Major attractions include the famous Eau Claire Festival Market, one of the areas with many pubs and restaurants, and host to many Summertime weekend festivals. It is also the perfect starting off point for a stroll along one of the many scenic paths along the Bow River or Prince's Island.
In the Summer, Prince's Island is crowded with people enjoying the sights and sounds of many cultural festivals.
* Eau Claire Market is a unique market-style mall, chock full of interesting shops, restaurants, and cinemas.
* Prince's Island Park: Calgary's largest inner city park is located immediately north of Eau Claire and bounded by the Bow River. It is the site of two of the city's largest annual festivals, Canada Day celebrations and the Reggae Festival(Festival celebrating the city's large West Indian population).
* Barclay Parade: Barclay Mall is a pedestrian mall that runs from Eau Claire on the north to Stephen Avenue in the south. It is home to a number of high end shops and encompasses the Penny Lane Entertainment District.
The C-Train LRT system is easily accessible from this neighbourhood as the 7th Ave line runs through the Downtown Core. The 4th and 7th St SW stations serve the majority of transit riders in the area. There are also numerous bus routes that run to all corners of the city. Additionally there are several paved bike paths including one that runs the trails and runs along the bank of the Bow River.
There are currently no schools in the Downtown West End neighbourhood. Primary school education can be found in surrounding inner suburbs, such as Sunnyside and Inglewood. The neighbourhood does not contain any post-secondary institutions , however the three major ones, the University of Calgary, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) are all easily accessible via the Calgary Transit system
