UPLANDS IN ACTION The first two months of school have gone by so quickly. Students are settled into their classrooms, engaged in their learning and have participated in many school events/activities. Highlights in October include: Cross country running practices, meets and running with the Penticton Lakers hockey team Soccer practices and games Successful magazine fundraiser (a huge thank-you goes out to Jo-Anne Bettauer for coordinating it and looking after the ice cream treats and prizes!! J) Fire prevention presentation by Penticton Secondary drama students Salmon fieldtrips to Oliver and presentations about salmon at our school Teachers doing SMART Learning demonstration lessons for teachers from other schools UNICEF Campaign Week (Thank-you Ms. Porteous’s classes for coordinating it J) Family pumpkin carving evening (special thanks to Simone Peters for looking after the popcorn and drinks – proceeds go to UNICEF J) Monster Mash parade and dance Block X (social responsibility activities in cross-graded groupings) Hot Lunches (many thanks to Cristin Olafsson, Doris Tilley, Ashley Abrosimo and Kirsty Robertson) SOAR program and “Student of the Week” 1:1 Reading Program (many thanks to Shannon Bull, coordinator, and all of the volunteer readers) Everyday learningJJJ
In November we look forward to our Remembrance Day assembly on Nov. 10th, multicultural club, spirit days, grades 4 and 5 volleyball/newcomb, assemblies, Block X, student-lead conferences, parent/teacher interviews and Book Fair (Nov. 3rd – 5th), first term progress reports and our grade 5 leadership conference. On Nov. 13th West Bench will be joining our grade 5s in a student leadership conference, with sessions presented by student leaders from Princess Margaret and Penticton Secondary Schools. It will be a valuable experience for everyone! The commitment and teamwork of staff, students, families, community and district, help to provide opportunities that enrich the education of our children. We are grateful for your cooperation and support - making our school such a wonderful place to learn and grow. Thank-you!!!
