Shawnigan Lake

Shawnigan Lake is slowly transforming from 'summer cottage country' to a bedroom community of Victoria.  It is centered around the lake which is about 7 miles long and prized year round by local water skiers and popular in the summer by week-enders - mainly up from Victoria.  A good portion of the year round population (about 4000) commute to Victoria (approx 40 minutes to downtown) and surrounding communities - the price difference of real estate makes this a very attractive alternative to living closer in. 

There is a village core with a few shops and restaurants but the major shopping center and businesses are about 10 minutes down the road in Mill Bay.  This area offers a surprising choice in schooling from the public to a variety of private institutions.  Students come from all across the globe to attend one of the three private high schools here. 

Between the comfortable year round weather, the peacefull country living and easy access to Victoria, ferries and airport this makes Shawnigan Lake a very attractive place to live and more and more people are discovering us.
