View Royal Real Estate

History

Located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island is View Royal, a friendly growing community of approximately 8,000 people.  View Royal’s history parallels the history of the rest of the region dating back to the 1850’s for Europeans, and more than 4,000 years before that for First Nations.  It has the oldest continuously operating pub in all of British Columbia and is home to the Victoria General Hospital.  Even with its long history, View Royal was not incorporated as a municipality until 1988!  Though small, View Royal has access to all the amenities of the much larger Victoria which is just minutes away.

View Royal Real Estate

View Royal real estate has been divided into seven distinct precincts. These precincts are Atkins, Burnside, Craigflower, Harbour, Helmcken, Hospital, and Wilfert. This division was determined by such things as topography, natural environment, the age of housing in the area, and major transportation corridors.  Each Precinct can also be described or identified by its population, the number of dwelling units by type and ownership, the amount of land that is available for new development, and the presence of commercial and retail land properties.

True to its name, View Royal real estate offers spectacular waterfront properties. Among the other amenities it offers residents nature parks, walking and cycling trails.

Education

Students who live in View Royal attend schools in the Greater Victoria School District 61.  Providing a quality education to all the students in View Royal is the goal of the District.  Therefore, it seeks to exercise a three-prong approach of incorporating the involvement of the schools, parents, and the community to provide a dynamic learning environment for all students.

Climate

View Royal, as all of the Vancouver Island Coast Region, enjoys the mildest Mediterranean-like climate in Canada, with plenty of warm sunny summer and mild days.  The Pacific Ocean influences the weathern patterns of the area which receives modest rainfall and temperatures range from an average of 24 degrees C in the summer to rarely falling below 0 Degrees C in the dead of winter.

Things to Do

If you are looking for something to do in View Royal, The Craigflower Manor and school house would be a great way to learn about the area. This historic farm was established by the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1853 and operated as one of the Vancouver Island’s first farming communities.

The old school house is adjacent to the manor. It is the oldest schoolhouse in British Columbia.  The Six Mile Pub is the oldest pub in B.C. and boasts of the best pub food around with its full-time baker and quality steaks.

If you are into more outdoor activities, the View Royal Parks and Gardens provides plenty of activities like sandy beaches at Thetis Lake Regional Park, “peaceful recreation” at Portage Park, and at Mill Hill Park can you enjoy views of Victoria, Esquimalt Harbour, Sooke Hills and the many species of wildflowers that bloom in the spring. Of course, there are plenty of activities of all types available in Nearby Victoria.
