WORLD'S HIGHEST TIDES

The tidal bore is a wave of water that moves upstream against the current. Twice every day the Bay of Fundy fills and empties of its 100 billion tons of water, creating the highest tides in the world – up to 53 feet high!

King's-Edgehill School

King's-Edgehill School is the oldest independent school in Canada. It was founded in 1788 by the Rt. Rev. Charles Inglis, the first Anglican Bishop of Canada, to serve the Loyalist families who settled in Nova Scotia following the American Revolution.

The campus is situated on 65 wooded and landscaped acres. Convocation Hall (1863) and the Hensley Memorial Chapel were designed by the distinguished 19th century Canadian architect, David Stirling. There are several 19th century houses on the campus in which members of the faculty live. Visitors are invited to stroll the grounds. Guided tours are available. Please phone the school at 902-798-2278 or inquire on the campus at Marshall House.

Windsor West Hants Pumpkin Regatta

In 1999, local citizens Judith Thompson and Helen Romans, interested in tourism, approached Mr. Dill’s son, Danny, about the possibility of expanding on the tourism shoulder season and raising Windsor’s profile as the World Pumpkin Capital. Danny suggested racing pumpkins across Lake Pezaquid – and another international craze began to germinate in Windsor.

In the first year of the event, 1999, The Pumpkin Regatta, with an operating budget of $50.00, attracted about 2,000 skeptical spectators who turned out to watch five brave – and no doubt equally skeptical – participants attempt to manoeuvre their hollowed-out giant pumpkins across Lake Pesaquid.

So novel was the idea of racing giant pumpkins that local merchants and local media were quick to get on-side. The 1st Annual Pumpkin Regatta attracted national attention, and Windsor – "The Little Town of Big Firsts" – could now claim another first – Giant Pumpkin Racing!
