Markham is in York Region and connects to Toronto at Steeles Avenue. Markham's population is approximately 298,000. Many high tech companies have set up business in the Town of Markham such as IBM, Compaq Canada, Hewlitt Packard, Toshiba of Canada Ltd., and Sun Microsystems, etc.
To get to work you can drive or take the "Go" train which is about a half mile south on Markham Road and 16th Avenue. The train takes you right into the heart of downtown Toronto. You can park your car at the "GO" station, if you wish.
Markham has a very diverse population and offers many attractions that cater to all ages. The many public libraries have both children and adult programs. Angus Glen and York Downs Golf courses are right in the heart of Markham. Some other attractions are the Markham Museum, Varley Art Gallery, Farmers market, Markham Music Festival, The Festival of Lights at Christmas, Jazz Fest, Markham Theatre for Performing Arts, Pedestrian Day, and many outdoor cafes line both Unionville and Markham main streets.
The Catholic High School closest to the Markham Road and 16th Avenue intersection is "Brother Andre"". The Public High Schools nearby are "Markham District High School" and "Markville Secondary School". The Markham-Stouffville Hospital services residents in Markham and surrounding areas. Many retirement homes are available for seniors and specialty schools are readily available for young people such as montessori, performing arts, french schools, etc. Churches can service many different religions.

September 2009 sales which were 8,196 for the GTA are up 28% over September 2008 and the average price increase for the same period was 10%. Average price for September '09 transactions was $406,877. Year to date sales are 66,437 - up 4.5% compared to the first eight months of 2008.
The good news is this has helped to fuel the economy in such sectors as finance and banking, moving companies, and renovations and home furnishings. With better affordability due to low interest rates, consumer confidence is increasing.
