Hamilton West. The West end of Hamilton is a collection of neighbourhoods- Westdale, the Southwest, James Street North, and the Bayfront to name a few that include historical homes and buildings, beautiful churches, interesting one of a kind shops, McMaster University and Medical Centre as well as St. Joseph's Hospital. McMaster is the largest employer in the area. There are Waterfront trails and an expansive number other additional trails including the rail trail and sections of the Bruce Trail. Hamilton is proud to be the head quarters of the Bruce Trail along with the galleries there are terrific restaurants in both the James Street and Locke neighbourhoods and a "Restaurant Row" of pubs and specialty restaurants. The Art Gallery of Hamilton has recently undergone an extensive renovation and is becoming well known for its interesting shows and general collections. There are private galleries throughout West Hamilton, especially on Locke Street South and James Street North. Friday night gallery tours are well attended by patrons and artists alike. The schools in the west end are highly desirable and many school score extremely well in the EQAO assessments.
