Hintonburg Neighbourhood, Ottawa

In 2007 the average price for a home in Hintonburg was approximately $296,000.

Of the approximately 35 freehold homes sold in 2007, they ranged in price from $212,500 to $422,500.

There were about 2 condominium homes (apartments) sold in a price range of $210,000 to $22,000.

Hintonburg can be divided into two areas, one north of Wellington St. and the other south of Wellington St.  For the purpose of this article and the above statistics we are focusing on the area to the south.  This is bordered by Wellington St. to the north, the Queensway (Hwy. #417) to the south, Parkdale Ave. to the west, and the Ottawa O Train railway line to the east. (Just east of Loretta Ave. N)

This neighbourhood is frequently described as Ottawa’s “up and coming” neighbourhood. In fact in its April 2007 issue, enRoute magazine named Hintonburg as one of the tope ten emerging neighbourhoods in Canada! It is an older established neighbourhood (settlement began in the 1850’s) in the central west area of the city. It is in an excellent location for ease of transportation be it by public transit bus or train, or on roadways such as Wellington, Carling, or the Queensway.

It is literally only minutes to downtown and the trendy shopping district in the Glebe. The neighbourhood itself has a tremendous variety of eclectic shops and services with a diversity of restaurants for every taste. Stroll the streets and you will find an art gallery, Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC) and community center. As you soak up a real part of Ottawa’s heritage, look at the architecture of the homes and businesses as they mix with newly renovated properties and new construction.

And no trip to this neighbourhood is complete without stopping at the Parkdale Market.  This open air market comes to life in the spring and serves people from all across the city until the end of October. Fresher and better produce is hard to find anywhere else.

Hintonburg is still an affordable neighbourhood with such close proximity to downtown. For a lifestyle and investment, it is hard to beat.
