King West Village

KING WEST VILLAGE - Neighborhood Real Estate Specialists

King West Village Neighborhood Real Estate Specialist Sam KamoutsisKing West Village is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods of Toronto. It's a community full of townhouses, eclectic shops, fashionable restaurants, and artist studios located minutes from downtown Toronto by the TTC. In the past few years, King West has undergone a spectacular transformation that now epitomizes urban living in the city.

However, it wasn't always like that. King West Village, as it is today, was once nothing more than a huge industrial area filled with factories such as Macgregor Socks. The factories, however, are all gone today. All you can see now are spectacular new lofts and condominiums, served by retail and big box stores such as Dominion, and offering nearby cafes, art galleries, trendy bars, restaurants, and parks that  provide places to walk, bicycle, rollerblade, and entertain friends.

LOCATION
The neighbourhood of King West Village is bordered roughly by Spadina, Front, Adelaide and Bathurst. The whole of the area has come suddenly to life as is evident by the number of properties that you can see being constructed, demolished, renovated, and renewed here everyday. Here, developers are grabbing every available lot in the area, driving out long-time fixtures, and in turn pushing up values.

HISTORY

Kin West Village Real Estate Specialist Sam Kamoutsis Homes For SaleAnother contributing factor to the appeal of the neighbourhood is its rich history. You can expect to see old factory buildings and warehouses along King & Wellington streets, the famous Wheat Sheaf Tavern which has been a landmark of Bathurst & King for over 150 years, and the Victoria Memorial Park, which is actually a cemetery for some of the soldiers who have passed away in the war of 1812.  It is currently going through a restoration, which is rumored to be costing over $1 million dollars. The majority of these historical buildings in the King West Village are protected under the law, and this fact will hopefully help in keeping the area just as pedestrian-friendly as it is now for a long time to come.

AREA FEATURES

The reason for the unique flavour of King West does not lie only in its historical roots. The area is known for its vast array of modern conveniences including great shops, independent galleries, restaurants and clubs. The area also has parks, carwashes, fitness centers, health food shops and yoga classes, similar to what one might expect from any modern, high class neighbourhood. You can have a morning coffee from a nearby cafe and then hop on the streetcar for a five-minute ride to Bay Street or to the subway station. You can also drive to the Gardiner Expressway as it's less than five minutes away.

ATTRACTIONS

Besides all of the attractive features, what really makes King West what it is, is the genuine sense of community that you can experience here. Residents living here say that they actually know their neighbours, and see the same people jogging down the street, shopping, and having espresso. It's this sense of community that pervades King West and allows the people here to be at home and experience urban living. The location of the neighbourhood also provides residents with very easy access to the business and financial districts of Toronto. Famous destinations such as the Skydome, Exhibition Place, Harbourfront, Fort York, and the Toronto Islands are all very much accessible.

The neighbourhood is further known to offer shops, professional services and restaurants, that serve the area's day-to-day needs. In terms of local recreations, Stanley Park is among the neighbourhood’s fovourite meeting places, offering baseball diamonds, tennis courts, an outdoor pool, and a soccer field. The community centre is also located on its grounds, and is normally used for community meetings, community-based programs, and sometimes for social functions as well.

Due to the neighbourhood’s close proximity to another uber-trendy neighbourhood, the Queen Street West, King West Village does offer a few bargains. However, one advantage to those wishing to purchase in this rapidly emerging area is that by downtown standards, the properties here are fairly large, with big underground garages, and elevations up to 20 stories.
