the new tourist destination of the South Pacific. One of the last best kept secrets of Costa Rica.
Just 17 kilometers south of well-known Dominical, Uvita is a tranquil, beach side village with four markets, a gas station, bank, Internet cafe and some excellent restaurants. There is more on the way as this area is just being discovered by tourists looking for what is often described as “the best kept secret in Costa Rica”.
Playa Uvita and Bahia Ballena mark the north tip of Parque Nacional Marino Ballena, the largest Marine Park in Central America. The park protects a large coral reef and several secluded beaches & there are snorkeling and scuba trips to Ballena and Cano Islands. At low tide you can walk out a one-kilometer long sandbar to the exposed reef formation known as The Whale’s Tail and snorkel right off the reef. Dolphins & whale's can be seen from the shore as well as on boat tours offering opportunities to swim with these beautiful creatures.
Other adventure tours in the area for people of all ages include...
Birdwatching & horseback riding tours through the jungles, beaches or to waterfalls.
Experience white water rafting through a 400 meter canyon in the largest river and biggest volume of water in Costa Rica, the Terraba.
Kayak through mangroves, caves or waves at Ballena Marine Park & Ventanas.
Canopy & Zip Line Tours are a popular excursion at Hacienda Baru National Wildlife Refuge and it is also a great place to visit for Mangrove & Beach walks and guided tours.
Corcovado National Park (a full day tour) is considered by National Geographic to be the third best park in the world, where 65% of the flora & fauna is represented in Costa Rica.
Our area boasts some of the best sport fishing in the world with many outfitters guaranteeing that you will have multiple hook ups of billfish.
If you're looking for nightlife, Dominical is the place, with several bars, each has a different special nearly every night of the week. If you want local flavor and less tourists, try the disco down in Bahia on Saturday nights and karaoke at Coco Tico Eco Lodge right in the heart of Uvita.
