Puerto Plata City

Dominican Republic real estate on the north coast consists of several towns and cities with the largest being Puerto Plata.

Puerto Plata is the largest city on the North Coast with a population of 200,000. Christopher Columbus discovered this natural port in the early 1490's.  Unlike the nearby villages of Sosua and Cabarete, Puerto Plata is not a major tourist destination although many people visit the city from neighboring tourist towns to travel up the beautiful Isabel de Torre by cablecar and take in the spectacular views of the city and surrounding areas, to visit the historic fort Fuerte de San Felipe or to stroll along the 2km oceanfront boardwalk, El Malecon.

There are several gated communities and private homes where many expats choose to make their Island Home, however many people prefer homes in prodominantly Dominican neighborhoods where they are able to enjoy the culture and warmth of the Dominican people.
