Punta Colonet

Many of Baja’s towns are fascinating. Tijuana is a bustling border town with great restaurants, state of the art medical facilities, shopping and nightlife.

There are 30 mission sites in various states in Baja.

With 3,000 miles of gorgeous coastline, finding a secluded beach is not difficult. Baja is a year round destination, but depending on what you are doing and when you are going will determine the time you visit. Casual is king in Baja and is appropriate in most situations.

In 1827 Jose Manuel Machado obtained a grant of 11 leagues of land south of Rancho Tijuana that, now divided into several ranchos, also includes the city of Rosarito with a population of 100,000. The valley of Rosarito marks the original boundary between Alta and Baja California, which after the Mexican-American War was moved north to Tijuana.

Until several years ago, Rosarito was modest fishing village. Since the 1990’s Rosarito was changed into a commercial strip lined by resort-style hotels, interesting crafts stores and fine restaurants.

The beaches, fishing, organized bicycle riders, races and horseback riding are the main attraction. Rosarito has a reputation for being the best place in northern Baja for quality furniture, which can be handmade to order for a fraction of the cost. You will find your best deals at the south end of town.

On Sundays go to the flea market. You will find incredible deals there. Go to Popotla to get the best and freshest fish in the area. This dirt road borders the Fox Studios where the Titanic was filmed. There are no tours at Fox Studios but you can visit the Museum on weekends.

Try one of the nicest hotels along the corridor, the Mediterranean-style Las Rocas Resort and Spa. Get a pedicure from a view that is to die for!!!

The Ortega family opened the first lobster restaurant in Puerto Nuevo. The best lobster you will find at Puerto Nuevo Uno. For a romantic view and excellent food go to Ortega’s Patio. For the best deals, go to the smaller places on the southern edge of the village, which get less foot traffic and often outdo each other in amazing specials.

Another place to stay when visiting would be the Brand Baja Resort. Try the halfway house for Mexican Combinations for a very conservative price. Most everyone has heard of La Fonda between KM 58-60. Do not miss this restaurant with romantic views of the ocean. El Mirador a roadside viewpoint at Km 84 is spectacular. Don’t miss the views!

Now on to Ensenada! This town is the most sophisticated well rounded of the northern coastal towns. It has great civic pride and is a fairly wealthy town. We suggest Avenida Lopez Mateos, for shopping, cafes, and restaurants with many hotels.

There is so much to do in Ensenada, Rosarito and Tijuana so if you are interested in having a great time, do get in touch!! Bienvenido. Welcome.
