Little Italy

Somewhat of a misnomer today, Little Italy was so named for the Italians who began investing heavily in Playa del Carmen in the 1990’s, building the first boutique hotels and small condominium projects in this area of Playa’s main pedestrian thoroughfare, the world famous 5^th Avenue. Setting up shop at what was then the very northernmost end of 5^th Ave., they put in fashionable clothing shops and quaint international restaurants all with stylish modern condominiums above, much in the style of Italian cities. Particularly vibrant by night, Little Italy is always a buzz with activity, it's lively bars and coffee houses packed with customers, often spilling out onto the street. Today, this chic neighborhood is popular with travelers and investors from all over the world and is Playa del Carmen’s most sought after in-town address.
