Rio Del Mar - A Special Place for Special People

Neighborhoods have their own character, and they attract personalities that mesh with their surroundings. Rio Del Mar has an intriguing blend of classic Mediterranean-Style beach homes from the 20's and 30's, stately bluff-top estates, modern upscale homes, and tucked in here and there, your simple family bungalow. 

With an abundance of beachfront and beach area vacation homes, we see visitors throughout the year, but especially during the summer months of June, July and August.  Many of these beach homes are rented by the week.

Locals know that the best weather happens in September and October, when the cool coastal fog is minimal and the warmth of summer still lingers.  Also, springtime brings similar patterns of sunny days and cool nights.  Living here, you get to enjoy the best while most of the visitors are gone!

Rio Del Mar developed first as the private getaway of Claus Spreckels, of sugar fame.  In the 1920's, most of what are now year-round neighborhoods were created by real estate developers who purchased the land from Spreckels, laid out the lots, and sold to Bay Area residents in search of weekend retreats.  Nowadays, most homes are full-time residences, and the area is known as one of the more prestigious and valuable areas of the county.
