Lake Cherokee

It was a pleasant surprise to learn that my neighborhood, the Lake Cherokee area of downtown Orlando,  known in the 1870's as Lake Minnie, was named for Minnie Hall, daughter of pioneer Dr. Fergus Sloan Hall.  Steeped in history, the area has been party to such diverse activities as resisting Indian raids, cow grazing, and later becoming a newlywed haven for five couples who built their homes along the west shoreline on Honeymoon Row.  Over the years, a variety of architectural styles have evolved--Victorian, Craftsman, Tudor, Meditteranean and Colonial Revival, transforming Lake Cherokee into one of the most distinctive neighborhoods in the city.  Owners have restored original structures to better than new condition, and a few new homes have been built to match the original character of the neighborhood.   Spacious townhomes share the lakefront with stately mansions.

Consisting of a sixteen block area, Lake Cherokee, was the second downtown neighborhood to achieve a historic designation.   The area is home to two schools, one of which was built in 1926 in a rich Meditteranean Revival style.  A neighborhood association affords homeowners an opportunity to meet with city officials and have their community needs adressed and network with each other.  Historic street lighting, park signage, landscape and rebricking projects have evolved from these meetings, and caroling in the park has capped a social gathering.  A recent addition as part of the State Road 408 widening project by the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority has been a sound wall constructed along the East-West Expressway, blocking traffic noise on Anderson Street and adding more ambience to the area. A $550 million Performing Arts Center is in the planning stages.

Residents have the choice to walk/jog/bicycle around a beautiful neighborhood park and watch wildlife on the lake or take to the downtown streets and city life just a few blocks away.  Beautiful homes, trees, brick streets and a peaceful lake deliver an unmatched tranquility that eases the stress from the busiest life.  Bungalows, condominums and estate homes have experienced high real estate appreciation.  The most important part of any neighborhood is the people, and it has been heartwarming to observe long time Cherokee residents going above and beyond to help newcomers assimilate into the neighborhood.

If you would like to learn more about historic Lake Cherokee, I represent qualified buyers as a Buyer's Agent and would love to show you my beautiful neighborhood where I have proudly lived for almost 15 years.  If you are a Lake Cherokee resident who must sadly sell your property and relocate, please allow me the opportunity to give you a price evaluation and assist you with the transition with the least inconvenience to you.  Just fill out the Online Home Evaluation Form, or reach me at 407-649-4241 or  Mary@SeahallProperties.com.

All the best from your Cherokee friend,
