Saint Cloud

BECOME A MEMBER OF THE INTERACTIVE COMMUNITY WEBSITE AT www.NARCOOSSEENEIGHBORS.com. St. Cloud is a small family oriented town right outside of Orlando and the booming Lake Nona area.  We have 2.5 miles of beautiful lakefront and an extensive parks program.  We have a wonderful historic downtown with character and our schools are high rated.  St. Cloud is adjacent to the Florida Turnpike making travel to Orlando and the International Airport only a 25 minute drive away.  We have made some major changes over the past few years with the construction of a new Senior Center/Evacuation Center and a new City Hall.  We have expanded our marina to host 140 boat slips with a lakefront eatery and banquet rental facility.

The Magic of Nature.…

Incredible applications of modern technology combined with the most creative minds and engineers in the world have designed magical worlds of fantasy and adventure that are St. Cloud's world-renown neighbors to the west.  In St. Cloud's backyard, however, the wondrous and awesome magic of nature awaits.  There are miles of trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding and many vantage porints for birding, observing wildlife, exploring, and just enjoying Mother Nature's Florida.

World Famous Fisheries

The Kissimmee Chain of Lakes is a world-famous fishery for bass and attracts recreational and tournament fishermen from around the world. The beautifully redeveloped lakefront on East Lake Toho at Lakefron Park is a great place to wet a line.  The public boat ramp makes for an easy launch, or fish from the pier or the Dan Terrell Memorial Point.  Professional fishing guides are also available.

Parks, Preserves & Hiking Trails

Just a short drive in nearly every direction, there are parks, preserves, and hiking trails. Some are wildlife management areas protected by the state of Florida, others are private enterprises determined to preserve the “Old Florida.”

Lake Lizzie Nature Preserve, located on Old Melbourne Hwy. just east of St. Cloud, is a 950-acre preserve recognized as one of Florida's best sites for hiking, horseback riding, and nature viewing.  Home to sand hill cranes, gopher tortoises, deer, hogs, and many other species of wildlife it is listed on the Great Florida Birding Trail.  Marked trails lead to the shores of Lake Lizzie and Trout Lake.

The Bull Creek Wildlife Management Area, six miles south of Hwy. 192 at Holopaw, provides an 8.6-mile, self-guided driving tour. The Florida National Scenic Trail runs the length of the area (17.8 miles) and connects with the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area (rough roads may require four-wheel drive vehicles).

Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area, located 13 miles south of Holopaw near Kenansville, contains a significant portion of the Kissimmee Prairie; one of the largest remaining expanses of dry pririe in the U.S.  Named for the three lakes that border the area - Lake Kissimmee, Lake Jackson, Lake Marian - hunters can challenge the famed Osceola turkey, wild hogs, or whitetailed deer.  Fisherman can bring home a mixed catch, or enjoy hiking, birding, or horseback riding.  During spring and fall all enjoy a colorful pallet of wildflowers.

Peghorn Gardens and Nature Park, a St. Cloud city park, is located at 2101 Peghorn Way, just off 17th Street.  This 58-acre park offers marked hiking trails and self-guided tours through a variety of eco-systems and wildlife habitats.

Ralph V. Chisholm Park off Narcoosee Road, a great county park, provides picnic pavilions, playground, ball fields, volleyball area, beach, boat ramp, and approximately two miles of hiking and horse trails.

At Florida Eco Safaris at Forever Florida, east of St. Cloud off Hwy. 441, guests enjoy a guided tour on an elevated swamp buggy through a 4,700-acre wilderness preserve which includes a working cattle ranch. Forever Florida also offers horseback tours and a summer camp for young explorers.

Magic ...you bet!  St. Cloud has it in abundance, both the man made kind variety and that of Mother Nature.  Get out.  Explore the area.  It's fun, it's healthy, it's educational.  Enjoy!

Public Education

Education standards are one of the many strengths of the St. Cloud community. Five of six public elementary schools are A-rated FCAT schools under the strict Florida standards, the sixth is a B school.

Three middle schools serve the west, central, and eastern sectors of the St. Cloud Community. All are A-rated schools.

Two public high schools anchor the east and central parts of St. Cloud – new Harmony High School, which opened in August 2004, and St. Cloud High School with its many years of tradition.

Two magnate schools serve Osceola County students. Close to St. Cloud is TECO/PATHS offering both academic and technical/career training. Academically, this A-rated school ranks number one in the County, with a 100% graduation rate; and 99% of students earn over a 2.0 GPA with 55% at 3.0 GPA or higher. The technical programs include a highly ranked Licensed Practical Nurse program, Criminal Justice Academy, Automotive NATEF and AYES certifications, Information Technology certifications, along with Electrical Contractors and Industrial Trades Apprenticeship programs. A second magnate high school, also A-rated, serves students interested in the arts, dramatic and visual, at the Osceola County School for the Arts. This newer addition to the District reflects the growing appreciation of the cultural arts in education. High-ranking eighth grade students also have the option of applying to the District’s International Baccalaureate program at Gateway High School in Kissimmee.

In addition to the public school system, the option of choice and neighborhood proximity are provided by Charter schools offering two elementary and two middle schools for St. Cloud area residents.

Enrolling

Enrollment in Osceola County School District’s schools requires: proof of residency; proof of physical examination; up-to-date immunizations on Florida Form 680; tuberculin test for all first-time enrollees in all grades; and proof of date of birth.

Private Schools

Six private schools increase the educational options available to St. Cloud residents. One offers pre-school through 8th grade; two offer pre-school through four years of high school; one offers 3rd grade through high school; and there are two pre-schools.

The Osceola campus of Valencia Community College, just five miles west of St. Cloud, offers a broad curriculum of associate degrees. Valencia offers two-year degrees and transfers to Florida’s four-year colleges. Other colleges within easy commuting distance of St. Cloud are Stetson University, Florida Christian College, University of Central Florida, Rollins College, Florida Southern College, Florida Metropolitan University, Florida Institute of Technology, Barry University, Phoenix University, Webster University, and Florida Bible College.
