Idaho Falls began as a trading post and later developed into a distribution post when the railroad came to Eagle Rock. On August 26, 1891, the town voted to rename itself Idaho Falls , after the rapids that existed below the Black Canyon Bridge. Economics depended on agriculure in Idaho Falls until the 1950's when INEL located in the nearby desert. Today, people enjoy the life of a growing city with several nearby areas offering sports and recreation for many needs.
