Norwood Park

Norwood Park Overview

Located at the Far Northwest Side of Chicago, the Norwood Park community is made up of variety of older, historic frame houses on very large city lots.  There are also a number of classic brick Bungalows and many post World War II English-style homes, as well as single-story ranch-style homes.

The residents of Norwood Park believe this is a great place to raise a family.  As proof, many Chicagoans have moved into the neighborhood from more expensive areas in the city, as well as from nearby suburbs.  With a strong sense of community, several block parties are common in the summer months, and there are year-round community events for the residents.  There is also plenty of local shopping available, especially on Devon Avenue and Northwest Highway.  To get around, public transportation is offered in the neighborhood and the METRA station gets commuters to downtown Chicago and The Loop in about 25 minutes.

Named after Henry Ward Beecher's  novel Norwood, or Village Life in New England (1868), it is home to many of the Chicago's firefighters, police officers, and other blue collar workers.  Norwood Park is especially known for its abundance of green:  lush lawns and parks, manicured churchyards, and majestic trees - everywhere.   Interestingly, Norwood is also among the most Republican of all Chicago communities, in a city overwhelmingly run by the Democratic Party.

Norwood Park Homes for Sale

Many of the areas larger and more historic homes, especially on the Norwood Park Circle, East of Harlem Avenue, and North of Talcott, run nearly $1,000,000 – and oftentimes more!  However, some of the smaller homes in Norwood Park are in very good condition, and are considerably more affordable.

Norwood Park is the eastern part of the community and is bordered by the village of Niles, the Cook County Forest Preserve and Austin and Harlem Avenues.  Old Norwood comprises the western half of the neighborhood and is bordered by the Devon, Canfield, and Harlem Avenues.

Norwood Park offers plenty of activities for your family.  There is 14 acres of swimming, a fitness center, a running track, several ball fields and tennis courts, plus a field house which supports several activities, sports and programs for the neighborhood’s children.
