Fall is in the air here in Boyne City. The Fall Festival which was set back 2 weeks due to inclement weather was held October 17 & 18. The scarecrow contest brought many creative entries around town to add to the fall festivities. As is normal, the colors are turning, Lake Charlevoix is getting colder and winter is just around the corner. Boats are being put up for storage every day and the look around Lake Charlevoix is changing for winter. We soon will be looking at snow on the mountain to get it ready to the ski crowds.
On going projects around town include the renovations to Old City Park. Soon the new sidewalks will be done and the new trees planted. In conjunction with this project Park St. and River streets are being repaved with infrastructure improvements going in before the resurfacing. Another project that is underway is the One Water Street office/hotel/marina project. There is lots of digging going on to rectify the contamination issues at that property. Developer, Glen Catt, is still predicting buildings on the property soon with the first occupants to move in by next summer.
Elections will be held in November to elect 3 city council members. A new mayor will be chosen this time as Eleanor Stacus, long time mayor, has decided not to run for re-election.
