The City of Republic operates under the Mayor – Board of Aldermen form of government. The Board acts as the City’s governing body, enacting the laws and establishing the policies that govern our City. The Board consists of a part-time Mayor and Aldermen representing each of the four individual wards. A full-time City Administrator and Assistant City Administrator oversees the day-to-day operation of our City.
Republic has much to offer. The Republic Parks & Recreation Department (Parks and Recreation) has recently constructed and opened a 46,000 square foot Community Center which houses two full size gymnasiums and a fitness center operated by Cox Health Systems. The facility also includes meeting facilities, indoor walking track, and a concession/café area. In addition, new playground equipment has been installed at three of the local parks. In the fall of 2003, the citizens of Republic passed a tax initiative to construct a new Aquatics facility to be located adjacent to the new Community Center located near the Bervin White Memorial ball fields and Saddle Club arena. The Republic Senior Friendship Center offers a vast array of services for the Seniors Citizens of this area including bingo, dancing, etc. The City has recently constructed an addition to the Senior Friendship Center to house the respite care program, lounge area, and a quilting room to keep the Seniors active and provide a social gathering opportunity.
Republic is deeply committed to ongoing development within the City through controlled growth. Meetings have been held with the Downtown Merchant’s Association to aide in the restoration and revitalization of the downtown area. Already faced with a growth in development, the opening of the Wal-Mart Supercenter ignited a boom in the Planning and Development in this area.
