Astoria

Astoria is a landmark Neighborhood located in Northwest corner of Queens. Astoria is home to immigrants from all walks of life. Bounded by the East River on the West Astoria has spectacular views of Manhattan which is a 20 minute commute by train. Its history dating back to colonial America... Astoria received its modern name in 1879 after the notable American John Jacob Astor. In 1870 Steinway village emerged through the efforts of the Steinway family who founded the Steinway and Sons piano factory home of the world famous Steinway piano.

Astoria is populated by Czechs, Brazilians, Italians, and through the last half of the 20th century become most famous for its Greek immigrants which grew in size after the second world war. Twenty First Century Astoria is even more diversified. Coexisting with the ethnic mix of the last century Astoria is experiencing a growing Indian, Bangladeshi, and Korean population alongside new immigrants from Asia, Middle East and Hispanic countries all living side by side each retaining much of their cultural heritage.
