College Point is tucked away in the North section of Queens. It borders the Flushing, Malba, Whitestone areas and is on the Flushing Bay and the East River.
College Point derived it's name from St. Paul's College, a seminary founded in 1835 by Rev. Augustus Muhlenberg.
College Point was founded by Conrad Poppenhusen. He became a philanthropist contributer to churches, libraries and the Poppenhussen Institute. Mr. Poppenhussen was responsible for the first free kindergarten in America.
The First Reformed Church located on 119 Street, the Poppenhussen Institute located on 14 RD, and the Poppenhussen Library located on 14 Ave. are just some of College Points notable structures.
Some of College Points past famous residents included Conrad Poppenhussen ( founder of College Point), Steve Karsay ( Major League Baseball player), and David Gallagher ( actor of 7th Heaven who portrayed Simon Camden).
College Point has two public elementary schools PS 129 & PS 29. Several Private schools: St. Fidelis, St. John's Lutheran School and St. Agnes ( Catholic High School).
St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, St. Paul's Episcopal, St. John's Lutheran and the First Reformed Church are the communities largest congregations.
On 20th Avenue, enjoy the shopping at : Target, Circuit City, TJ Max, BJ's, Old Navy Babies R Us , Staples and Waldbaums .
Boulder Creek, Starbucks Coffee and McDonalds are just a few places to grab a bite to eat or to relax and have a cup of coffee.
