It's small-town feel with neo-colonial buildings, Mount Kisco could still be called quaint.  today. Though one of the smallest villages in Westchester County, Mount Kisco has a bustling business community with an active Chamber of Commerce, a very active Senior Community at the Fox Senior Center  with two Senior Housing complexes, a major medical center with Northern Westchester Hospital Center and the Mount Kisco Medical Group and a large number of restaurants of varying ethnic cuisine.  Mount Kisco is known for its shopping and attracting residents other Westchester communities to Target, GAP, Anne Kline, Banana Republic, Borders Books, Starbucks, CVS, Blockbuster, Annie Sez, Party City and many more and has three large supermarkets. Mount Kisco also has major recreational facilities located at the Northern Westchester Boys and Girls Club,  Leonard Park including outdoor ballfields for softball, footbals and soccer, tennis courts, basketball courts, Memorial Pool and the new town gymnasium for year round indoor activities, not to mention the Saw Mill Club,  Mt. Kisco County Club, Clearview Cinemas and many locations for dance, karate and music lessons.  We also have several day care centers and a new 21,000 square foot, state of the art Library is in the planning stages. For nature walks in addition to Leonard Park, the town also boasts The Butler Sanctuary and Meyer Preserve with a total of over 630 acres of nature at its finest, with many species of birds, trees and flowers.  Additionally, The Westmoreland Sanctuary offers trails, museum tours and lectures and is a favorite class trip of the elementary school children.

History: Rich in history, the Town of Mount Kisco was settled in 1719 on land bought from the Indians forty years earlier.  It was earlier called New Castle Corners, now Leonards Park.  The Kisco River (the name comes from the Indian "seesque" or "muddy place", attesting to early marshes that caused drainage problems) flows through the village.  The village, in the Towns of Bedford and New Castle, was incorporated in 1875, it became a village/town governed primarily as a village.
     With the railroads in 1847 came wealthy summer people who wanted entertainment.  A roller rink on Maple Street was converted to an opera house and an armory was expanded for the roller skating, social balls and plays.  From the mid-20's to the 60's the Lawrence Playhouse present summer  stock in a large barn.  The performers included Mildred Natwick and Burl Ives and the stage manager was Henry Fonda.  was formerly part of the Town of Bedford until 1978 when it became an has been an independent village.

Gorvernment: Mount Kisco has an elected governement consisting of a Mayor and four trustees but the day to day operations are overseen by the Village Manager.

Schools: Mount Kisco is part of the Bedford Central School District. There is Mount Kisco Elementary within the village, yet there are areas where residents attend West Patent Elementary School in Bedford Hillsbased on geographical boundaries. The Fox Lane Middle School and Fox Lane High School are located on a large campus with Bedford Village and services the entire district. Private schools include the Rippowam Cisqua School, an independent country day school and Mount Kisco also offers Jewish and secular education at Bais Miriam Leah School and Talmud Beth Yechtel.

Where is Mount Kisco New York?

Mount Kisco is a bucolic town in the center of northern Westchester. It is bordered on the east by Bedford Village, on the north by Bedford Hills, on the west by Millwood and on the south by  Chappaqua. Mount Kisco is only about a 45 minute car ride to New York City, minutes to both route 684 or the Saw Mill Parkway and it's only a 55 minute train ride to Manhattan for an easy commute. It is also a short 15 minutes to the Westchester County airport for those who need to travel on business Because of its location and proximity to routes Interstate 684 and the Saw Mill River Parkway, its public Westchester County bus lines and its Metro North train station, it is easy to commute to and from Mount Kisco for work and shopping. It is for this reason that Mount Kisco has become the "HUB" of northern Westchester.
