Clyde North Carolina is in Haywood County which is located in Western North Carolina. Communities of Lake Junaluska and West Canton border this mountain town. The Clyde post office serves several small rural communities so they have been given a Clyde mailing address. These communities include Fines Creek, Panther Creek, Crabtree and Hyder Mountain. A NC resident could have a Clyde address on the Tennessee border and the town center will be nearly 30 miles away.The population is very sparse in this area.
Clyde, NC was created in 1877 from the surrounding communities of Waynesville, Beaverdam, and Pigeon. This new town was first called Lower Pigeon and the name was later changed to Clyde (a town that already existed on the Pigeon River).
The population of the municipal Clyde in the 2000 census was 1324 people, 547 households, and 373 families. The population of Clyde becomes larger when adding in the previously mentioned communities.
Haywood Community College is the only higher education school in Haywood County and is located in Clyde. This two year collegeg has an Arboretum on its campus. Clyde Elementary and Haywood High School are also located here. The Town Hall is located at 8437 Carolina Boulevard, Clyde, NC, 28721. This is where the monthly meetings for Planning Board and the Land Use Planning Committee. This town is also very convenient to Haywood Regional Medical Center.
