Brookings: Enjoy the View

Imagine waking each morning to the sound of crashing waves and the scent of fresh sea air.  You find yourself wandering out onto your private deck each afternoon to watch the sinking sun as it sets the Pacific aflame. Every time you step out your front door, you are greeted by green mountain vistas, the pungent scent pine, and a perfect blue Oregon sky overhead.  If this sounds like an ideal lifestyle, then you deserve to consider all that Brookings, OR homes have to offer.

Small country roads meander up and down the hillsides, leading residents home to their own private paradise.

In addition to the diverse selection of existing homes and condominiums to choose from, Brookings, OR real estate features several new housing communities in the early stages of planning and development.  Undeveloped land is available as well, many of which feature sweeping ocean views, all within easy reach of Brooking's many local attractions.

Whether you're in the market for a modest vacation home or a mountaintop mansion, Brookings, OR Realtor Robert Concienne can help you find your perfect view.

You can find delightful Italian cuisine at Bella Italia on Chetco Avenue, Irish pub fare at Fox's Den in the Port Shopping Center, and Mexican flavors at Torero's on Lower Harbor Road.  After dinner, head to Slugs 'n Stones 'n Ice Cream Cones in the Port Shopping Center for dessert, catch a movie at the Redwood Theater, bowl at Azalea Lanes, or have yourself a 'cuppa' at The Tea Room.

Designed for Outdoor Enthusiasts

As the busiest recreational port on the Oregon Coast, the Port at Brookings-Harbor welcomes nearly 100,000 recreational users per year, as well as around 5,000 commercial fishing vessels.  The marina, which is divided into "commercial" and "recreational" basins, maintains 671 slips --of those, all of the commercial and 100 of the recreational slips have electricity available.   For safety's sake, the Coast Guard maintains a year-round presence, and two 47-foot lifeboats stand ready at the Station Chetco River base.  There are numerous shops to be explored in the port's 9,300 square foot retail center, offering everything from art to ice cream to socks.  There's also a marina shop, a bait and tackle business, and a chandlery, providing everything you need to outfit your vessel.

The Chetco River, designated a Wild and Scenic River in 1988, is a superb spot for recreational fishing, especially from November to March, when salmon and steelhead abound.  Plan an excursion with one of Brookings' many charter companies and venture upriver or out to sea.  You can also make the short journey up to Gold Beach, where the Rogue River meets the Pacific. This is the ideal spot to fish the fall Chinook Salmon runs.

With California and the Redwood forests to the south, the rugged Siskiyou Mountains to the east, and numerous parks and preserves all around, Brookings is a paradise for the nature lover.  Whether you're hiking, kayaking, windsurfing or exploring tide pools along the beaches, you'll find yourself surrounded by some of the Northwest's most beautiful and pristine countryside. Owners of Brookings, OR homes have access to many natural outings in the surrounding areas.

The Oregon Coast Trail, which is near completion and will stretch for over 300 miles, is an excellent way to explore the coastline around Brookings.  A good portion of the trail runs right on the beach, though some sections pass through state parks and public lands.  In the Brookings area, the trail runs alongside Highway 101, passing through Harris Beach State Park.  You can explore the trail on foot, or on your mountain bike, which is allowed on some inland and headland trail segments.

Many adventures are within reach when you purchase a Brookings, OR home. About 10 miles up the Chetco River, you will find the 180-acre Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area, part of the Siskiyou National Forest.  This remote and beautiful section of the Siskiyou Mountains can be reached by traveling up the north bank of the Chetco River.  There are hiking trails, but many areas have no water and no facilities, so an overnight trek is not advisable for inexperienced woodsmen.  Spend the day observing the many rare and wonderful species of plants and animals that call this protected and beautiful environment home.

For the slightly less adventurous owner of Brookings, OR real estate, a stroll through the 33-acre Azalea Park may be the perfect way to spend an afternoon.  The area was dedicated as a State Park in 1939, the same year in which the first annual Azalea festival was held.   Featuring five varieties of endangered Azalea, the park's three-acre garden blooms with color all year long. Wander the trails, relax on a bench and inhale the fragrance of flowers that have bloomed here long before Lewis and Clark ever laid eyes on the Pacific. The Park also features picnic areas, a fun playground dubbed 'Kid Town', restrooms, and a softball field.

If you are preparing for a Brookings, OR relocation, you're in for a special treat. Grey whales can be seen off the coast of Harris Beach and Sporthaven Beach, as well as from the port itself.  Most Grey whales are migratory, sometimes traversing a distance that nearly equals the length of the globe each year as they make their way to their seasonal grounds, but some have chosen to become year-round residents off the Oregon coast.

There are as many different things to do outdoors in Brookings as there are people in the city.  No matter the time of year, you can expect to have the time of your life in this delightful city.  For more information about vacation or investment properties, or if you require assistance with a Brookings, OR relocation or need information about Brookings, OR commercial real estate, contact Realtor Robert Concienne at (541) 661-1425.
