Snee Farm is one of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina's most popular and historic neighborhoods. At one time all of Snee Farm was inhabited by the Seewee indians who were allied with the Kiawah and Wando tribes. In 1698 the land was granted by King William III of England to Nathaniel Law. The original property contained 1,100 acres, but has been split into different portions over the years. In 1754 Colonel Charlest Pinckney became the owner of the land and lived in the present farm house, using it as a lawyer's retreat. Snee Farm was used for growing cotton and indigo and the lakes were created for hunting and fishing. Snee Farm Golf Club purchased the land in 1966 and so the community with its beautiful lakes, wide streets, gorgeous oaks, large yards, and friendly neighbors was founded.
Snee Farm Country Club is a private golf club that offers thriving tennis and swimming organizations as well as golf for its members. The 6,834 yard, par 72, George Cobb designed course offers challenging play as well as picturesque lakes, streams, marsh, homes, and wilflife sightings. The tennis and swim programs are both excellent with award winning records throughout the State. Snee Farm Country Club hosts the Rice Planters Golf Tournament annually.
Location, Location, Location - one of the best reasons to live in Snee Farm. 5 minutes to Towne Center for shopping, movies, bookstore, and fine dining. 10 minutes to Isle of Palms beach and approximately 20 minutes to Charleston. This is why we are seeing extensive renovations and upgrading going on in this neighborhood.
Homes to suit every size family are available from small condominiums to large estates. Since most of the homes were built from ten to thirty years ago, it is not uncommon to find extensive renovations in progress. There are a variety of styles available from contemporary designs to copies of historic homes.
Snee Farm Community Foundation offers a strong involvement of homeowners that provides information and direction in the enforcement of its By-Laws and Amended Declaration and Restrictions. There is an official web site available for ease of communication and information.
On 06/22/09, I just noticed two beautifully renovated homes in this neighborhood go under contract. If you are looking for a great neighborhood and location, check out homes for sale in Snee Farm.
