Lakewood is part of East Dallas, south of Mockingbird and includes theLakewood Country Club, close to White Rock Lake. In the late 1920’s and 1930’s Lakewood was the grandest neighborhood in Dallas. The builder’s Dines and Kraft developed three subdivisions that originally made up the area. This fashionable area has strong architectural presence of French Eclectic, English Tudor, Colonial Revival and Spanish Eclectic homes with wide lawns, deep lots and wooded hills.
Currently there are new homes being built that mimic the original homes in the area. A big Whole Foods recently opened and there are many little shopping centers that house local shops and restaurants. There are great little local parks with tennis courts or pools, the Lakewood Country Club with a fabulous golf course. Lakewood elementary school is one of the premier schools and there are private and parochial schools here that are first rate. The Lakewood Library is conveniently located. This is a great place to live and work Downtown.
Just a hop, skip and a jump from White Rock Lake, with a great dog park, picnic areas, walking, biking and jogging trails as well as the large lake, people love living in Lakewood. A little bit of urban lake living!
