Lakewood is a collection of old-fashioned neighborhoods developed from the early 1900's to 1950's, which include Lakewood Heights, Park Estates, Caruth Terrace, Hollywood Heights and Belmont among others.

There is a large number of Historic and Conservation Districts reflecting Craftsman style, Prairie-Four Squares, Tudors, Spanish and Mediterranean Eclectic and Early Ranch homes, many of native Autin stone. Duplexes, four-plexes and very small apartment complexes round out the neighborhoods.

Extremely good public schools as well as several choices in private education is available.

Historic Lakewood Theater anchors a neighborhood of newer, trendy restaurants and shopping venues as well as older restaurants that have become institutions.

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens and White Rock Lake are popular neighborhood attractions.
