Lakeway

Lakeway is west of Austin on beautiful Lake Travis. Drive time to downtown Austin is 30-45 minutes depending on traffic and weather. Once a peaceful retirement community, Lakeway is now more self-sustaining and balanced. There really isn't much of a need to go into Austin except for specialty shopping and soon there won't be a need for that.

A major retail center and mall are going in within 10 minutes of Lakeway in the Village of Bee Cave. Lakeway demographics show a mix of people, from newly married couples to homes with kids of all ages to retirees. There really is something for everyone in Lakeway.

So what is there to do in Lakeway? For golfers, there are some excellent courses. For families wanting to stay cool in the summer, the Lakeway Swim Center is a great place to cool off, to have birthday parties and to mingle with neighbors. The Lakeway Marina is a great place to keep a boat or to rent one. For a fun lunch or dinner you can take a water taxi across the lake to Shades, a fun place for casual dining. Kids love tossing chips into the water to see the hungry catfish and carp come up to feed. The water runs in the summer months and is a great way to see Lakeway from the other side of Lake Travis without having to drive almost two hours. Lakeway has two wonderful parks - Dragon Park and Lakeway City Park, which is on the water. Lakeway also boasts several miles of greenbelt walking trails, including some primitive trails for the more hardy explorers.
For families with kids, as well as those simply thinking of resale at a later time, Lakeway is served by the Lake Travis Independent School District. The Lake Travis ISD excels in just about all aspects. The schools are all rated as Recognized or Exemplary, which are the highest ratings in the state of Texas. At the high school level, students excel accademically, in music, sports, theater and more. Students are also strongly encouraged to engage in community service. This is true also at the middle school level
