The East End of St. Thomas is known for being one of the most convenient and bustling locales on the island. Red Hook, in the heart of the East End, is the ferry port for travel to St. John - a 15 minute passage across mesermizingly beautiful seas. It's also the port for ferry service to the British Virgin Islands (BVI), and it's home to boat rental services, as well as yachts that dock in the sheltered inlet known as American Yacht Harbor. Cafes, restaurants, boutiques, a video store, a physicians' practice and mail service, along with an antique store and an ice cream booth are just some of the amenities tucked into this small port town. Red Hook is also home to Marina Market, known for its fresh produce, and quality meats and fish, as well as a sister wine-and-cheese shop that caters to the most discerning tastes.
Homebuyers should know that the East End commands some of the strongest price points on the island, in large part thanks to its views to St. John and the BVI, as well as the exclusive Water Point development, a gated community of multi-million dollar homes that speckle this long peninsula.
A series of very popular condominium complexes hug the shores of Cowpet Bay, shared by the world-famous St. Thomas Yacht Club, home to the annual International Rolex Regatta. Cowpet East and Cowpet West are two waterfront condo communities that flank the Elysian Condo Resort, also known as Cowpet Beach Resort. Shoreline restaurants are walking distance from all three complexes, which share a long beach, that tapers off from an unusually large, flat and very green lawn where families gather and children can enjoy tossing or kicking a ball. It's truly a neighborhood - something rare on the island, given its hilly topgraphy and inferior roads. These complexes are also very popular with snow birds, who want waterfront living and easy shuttering up of their residences when they're off island. A forth condominium complex rounds out this community. The Anchorage, like the Elysian, is not only waterfront, but both offer tennis courts and waterfront pools.
Sapphire Bay is also a notable East End complex where condominium residents can live and dock yachts - a rare combination on St. Thomas. Sapphire is known for its breathtaking views courtesy of the angle at which it faces a host of distant islands and cays, creating dramatic visual sculptures jutting from the turquoise waters.
Coral World marine park and sanctuary is a huge area attraction featuring sea lions, underwater treking and a host of fascinating sea and tropical flora and wildlife. It's located next to Coki Beach where snokeling is exotic and beach toys and water craft are easy to rent.
Call me to help you find your East End dream home, be it a permanent residence or an income producing property or a second home for those months when it's time to escape the doldrums. Barbara - 340-690-9995.
