Winthrop is a unique attraction for many because of its "Old American West" Theme. The town's buildings and shops are cleverly staged so visitors and residents alike can feel as if they are stepping back in time. Winthrop is a very popular hot spot for outdoor enthusiasts providing cross-country skiing with over 100 miles of groomed trails. rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, river rafting, horse-back riding, fishing, golfing, spectacular sight-seeing and many other outdoor activities.
Events include the Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival which is the longest and oldest running Blues Festival in Washington State, the Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival, live theatre and many art galleries.
Although the town resembles the historic past, some of the most progressive and earth friendly homes can be seen in the spectacular landscape that surrounds this fun place. Many of the shops along the main street in town are home to some of the finest artisans and craftsman in the region. The restaurants are very good too with a variety of choices and venue.
