Sudden Valley is a small, vibrant community located in Whatcom County, Washington. It is nestled in the Lake Whatcom watershed, encompassed by the Stewart Mountains. The community has approximately 3,400 properties (approximately 800 vacant lots remaining) and 6,000 residents. The Sudden Valley community is one of the last urban neighborhoods that will ever be developed in the Lake Whatcom watershed due to the sensitivity of the region. As a bedroom community of Bellingham, Sudden Valley has been a very popular and affordable community to live in for nearly 38 years.
Amenities include 5 lakeside parks, a private marina on Lake Whatcom, one of the finest championship 18-hole golf courses in the region, tennis courts, swimming pools, health club, Lake Louise, beachside picnic shelters, Adult Center, and numerous other community parks and trails. All assets are owned, managed, and maintained by the Sudden Valley Community Association for the benefit of the members.
Neighborhood Services……
Other services include: On-site fire station, Sheriff Service, and day care. The Sudden Valley community also has the Valley Village Mall - a neighborhood center that has groceries, deli, gas, a bank, Italian restaurant, financial services, mail center, hair salon, flower shop, and real estate services. We also have Bob’s Burger & Brew located in the golf course Clubhouse. Give them a try if you want to experience the best burgers in Bellingham!
Also, all Sudden Valley properties are serviced by City water, sewer, electricity, and cable T.V. Natural gas has come to Sudd3en Valley, but the gas lines have not extended to every neighborhood in the community as of yet. Continued development will surely spur natural gas line extensions in the future - the utility easements are in place.
Championship Golf…….
If you are a golfer, you will want to play the Sudden Valley G&CC. This Ted Robinson designed; championship 18-hole layout was designed to be the centerpiece of the Sudden Valley community. The golf course has hosted the Washington State Open in 1981, and has also hosted 5 Washington State Amateur Championships. Built in 1970, the course still ranks as one of the top courses in the region 39 years later. The Golf Club at Sudden Valley is semi-private, and has approximately 400 members. Golf Club member privileges include: unlimited golf, unlimited use of the driving range and practice areas, preferred tee times, a locker, handicap service, and access to Club tournaments. Members may also own their own golf cart – which is a true luxury these days. Located on the shores of Lake Whatcom, and surrounded by the Stewart Mountains, there is not a more scenic golf property in northwest Washington.
