Calheta is located on the south-west part of the Island, and comprises eight parishes: Arco da Calheta, Calheta, Estreito da Calheta, Jardim do Mar, Paúl do Mar, Prazeres, Fajã da Ovelha, and Ponta do Pargo.
Calheta has a mild climate throughout the year, and is characterized by its tranquility and safety. The artificial yellow sand beach in Calheta is the only one of its kind on the whole island.
