Description
The Gibson Ranch, located east of Hopland on Highway 175, is part of the McDowell Valley Appelation. The ranch is comprised of 40+/- acres planted to grapes. The varieties include Grenache, Grenache Noir, and Syrah. This vineyard produces the grapes that won the State of California award for the best Syrah wine in 2001.
This is an older vineyard with some vines dating back to 1919. This vineyard
produces very good quality grapes. Both the Grenache and Syrah grapes produce
excellent wines that are bottled and marketed locally as well as nationally.
The vineyard is irrigated/frost protected with an extensive system of riparian and appropriated water rights. There is one older house, storage shed, miscellaneous
structures included.
